Methodology

We don't want to sell you five. We want to find the one.

Every product we recommend is evaluated against the same criteria, in the same order, and scored the same way. When we can't support a claim, we leave it out.

01

Material quality

What is it actually made of, and does that material hold up under years of ordinary use rather than a two-week review period?

02

Construction

How is it put together? Stitched, welded and bolted assemblies outlive glued and ultrasonically welded ones.

03

Repairability

Can the parts that wear out be replaced — and by whom? A product you can service is a product you can keep.

04

Warranty

Warranty length is the manufacturer telling you how long they expect the product to survive.

05

Availability of spare parts

A published parts catalogue that still covers products sold ten years ago is one of the strongest signals there is.

06

Long-term user feedback

We weight reports from people years into ownership far more heavily than first-impression reviews.

07

Brand track record

Has the company supported its older products, or quietly abandoned them at each new launch?

08

Price versus expected lifespan

We divide price by realistic lifespan. Expensive things that last are often the cheaper decision.

How we make money

We may earn a commission if you purchase through one of our links. This does not cost you extra.

Commission does not determine the durability score, the ranking, or whether a product appears on this site at all. Products with no affiliate programme are recommended on the same terms as products with one.
